(1828-1917)
Lithuanian rabbi and halakhic authority. He was born in Biala, and served as rabbi of Karlino near Pinsk from 1868. His Piskei Halakhot is an exposition and summary of matrimonial law. In his Emek Berakhah he discussed the conditions under which a religious ban should be imposed. Although he initially was active in the Hibbat Zion movement, he later became an opponent of Zionism.
